Kafka Summit San Francisco to Feature the Latest in Streaming Applications and Real-Time Data Pipelines

PALO ALTO, Calif. – June 28, 2017 – The committee for Kafka Summit San Francisco today announced an all-star lineup of keynotes, speakers and sponsors for the third Kafka Summit, the largest gathering of Apache Kafka® developers, operators and executives. The event takes place on August 28, 2017, at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square. Kafka Summit brings the Apache Kafka community together to share best practices, write code and discuss the future of streaming technologies.

The conference will host 32 sessions across four tracks: systems, streaming data pipelines, stream processing and use cases. Keynote presentations will feature Neha Narkhede, original co-creator of Apache Kafka and co-founder and CTO at Confluent; Pat Helland, software architect at Salesforce; and Randy Shoup, vice president of engineering at Stitch Fix.

Innovators from a variety of industries will deliver presentations at the conference, including:

  • “How Blizzard used Kafka to Save Our Pipeline (and Azeroth),” Jeff Field, Blizzard
  • “Real Time Streaming Platform for Communications and Beyond,” Vijay Pasam, Capital One
  • “Accelerating Particles to Explore the Mysteries of the Universe and how Kafka can Help on That,” Martin Marquez, CERN
  • “Running Kafka as a Service at Scale,” Sriram Subramanian, Confluent
  • “Rito Pls: Riot’s Journey to Global Kafka Aggregation,” Singe Graham, Riot Games
  • “Multi-Tenant, Multi-Cluster and Hierarchical Kafka Messaging Service,” Allen Wang, Netflix

  • “‘DNS for Data:’ The need for a Stream Registry,” Praveen Hirsave and Rene Parra, HomeAway

Sessions were selected by the Kafka Summit committee from more than 150 submitted speaker proposals. The committee includes streaming data experts from Cloudera, Confluent, Google, LinkedIn, O’Reilly Media and Pivotal.

“It was amazing to see the adoption of Kafka for mission-critical applications at Kafka Summit NYC,” said Neha Narkhede, co-founder and CTO at Confluent. “With Kafka Summit SF around the corner, we’re excited to see even more talks around the creative and innovative ways people are leveraging Kafka and Confluent to impact the bottom line in their businesses. Together with the Kafka community, I’m really looking forward to learning from these speakers and sponsors as they share their lessons about putting stream processing into practice.”

Sponsors for Kafka Summit include The Apache Software Foundation, Arcadia Data, Attunity, Cloudera, Confluent, Couchbase, Datadog, Elastic, Google, Heroku, IBM, Kinetica, LinkedIn, MemSQL, Microsoft, MongoDB, ObjectRocket, Redis Labs, VoltDB and Yelp.
